Training Pays Off
Sarah rode Bogus and didn’t stop to rest!!!! Go Sarah… she also gets to get a new jersey courtesy of yours truly.
I haven’t posted much lately since I haven’t done much outside of my normal training schedule (for the past almost 2 month). My training has consisted primarily of spinning class 3 times a week. Spinning class is fun, you can push as hard as you want (so you can try to kill myself). I’ve made a deal with myself that if I puke during class I will call in sick and take the day off .
Anyway, yesterday (Sunday - 9/25/2005) I rode up to Bogus and got a new personal record. 1 hour 33 minutes. That is almost good enough to compete with the women in the yearly hill climb. I’m very happy since I started the summer at 2 hours 20 minutes. Spinning class is doing more than just maintaining my strength it is helping to build strength, endurance, and mental endurance. I pushed myself harder mentally yesterday than I think I ever have. It is often very hard for me to maintain a high level of effort once I get up around the Stack Rock trail head. I just want to downshift and take it easy. But yesterday I had enough resolve (mainly from getting used to Marty pushing us and yelling at us in spinning class).
A new addition to my training lately has been running on an elliptical machine twice a week (on days without spinning) for 30 minutes or so and then doing weights. Hopefully this 5 day a week plus some rides on the weekend will get me prepared for Thanksgiving in Spokane to go on a snowshoeing death march.
